Towels in the media

• In Chapter 3 of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, towels are highly extolled. In real life, every May 25th since 2001 has been celebrated as Towel Day in honour of the author who died two weeks earlier
• South Park regularly features a towel character named Towelie who warns everyone to bring towels

• In Eight legged freaks (2002), Scarlet Johanson is seen wearing only a bath towel.  She is pasted to her bedroom wall by a giant spider
• Gemma Bissex wore a towel in an episode from BBC's East Enders
• Larry David burns himself on a hot towel in his sitcom, Curb Your Enthusiasm, on Episode 4 of Season 7

• In the James Bond film, Golden Eye (1995), Bond kills a man by wrapping his neck with a towel
• Marisa Tomei has her hair wrapped in a towel in Slums of Beverley Hills (1998)
